First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern to Keynote 2007 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Daniel G. Mulhern, First Gentleman of the State of Michigan, will be the honored keynote speaker for "In the Spirit of Unity & Service: 2007 Regional Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," the community’s annual event honoring the late civil rights hero.

The event is scheduled for January 15, 2007, beginning at 7 a.m. at Unity Hall in The Dow Event Center, Saginaw, Mich. Mulhern will be joined at the podium by guest speaker Antionette Turner, assistant superintendent for Instruction and Strategic Planning, Saginaw School District, and master of ceremonies Matthew Franklin, reporter, WJRT ABC12 News.

This is the 21st anniversary celebration of the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday and the second year for the Tri-County Regional observance. The Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and the Saginaw Community Foundation are the hosts for this year's celebration.

In addition to the speakers, 15 local high school students from the tri-county area will be awarded the MLK Scholarship and two performance groups, the NAACP ACT-SO jazz group and the MLK, Jr. Choir, will entertain the audience. A buffet breakfast will be served.

Event sponsors are The Dow Chemical Company, Dow Corning Corporation, SC Johnson, Chemical Bank and Garber (Auto) Management Group.  Additionally, other event partners are the Bay Area Community Foundation and Chamber of Commerce, and the Midland Area Community Foundation and Chamber of Commerce. The Bay Area Chamber and Community Foundation will host the 2008 Regional Celebration.

The public is invited to join in the celebration, however tickets are limited.  You may obtain tickets by contacting your local Chamber of Commerce office.
