Snow and Ice Control

From mild flurries to powerful blizzards, snow and sleet can lead to icy conditions that create havoc and hazards for road traffic and pedestrians.

Falling snow or rain often freezes into slick patches of ice that are, in effect, accidents waiting to happen.  Treating walks, drives and steps with PELADOW™, DOWFLAKE™ Xtra or COMBOTHERM™ calcium chloride can help reduce outdoor slip and fall hazards due to ice and snow.  Treating rock salt and other abrasives with LIQUIDOW™ liquid calcium chloride solution can help enhance traction and speeds up snow and ice removal, making winter roads more passable.

Dust Control

The fine dust particles that blow off unpaved roads and construction areas can cause problems for nearby residents and affect local transportation by:

Road Construction and Maintenance

LIQUIDOW™ calcium chloride solution and DOWFLAKE™ Xtra calcium chloride flake is often used in road maintenance operations such as full-depth reclamation and road-base stabilization. These are processes where the existing road surface and the underlying base are pulverized and mixed together to create new base material for road repairs.  Full-depth reclamation and road-base stabilization are preferred methods for road maintenance because the process conserves labor, funds and material by reusing existing aggregate and asphalt.  This makes road maintenance more affordable, with longer lasting results.  Calcium chloride from Dow is used in these processes to strengthen and stabilize the road bases which helps prevent deterioration such as potholes, frost-heave and cracking.
