Michigan Voluntary Protection Program
Dow Ludington was the first chemical manufacturer in Michigan to be honored with the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star award and certification, the State's highest Safety & Health award for workplace safety and health excellence. The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) Bureau of Safety and Regulation is responsible for the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSHA) program. MIOSHA established the MVPP program in 1996 to recognize employers who go above and beyond what is required and who set the industry standard for achieving excellence in workplace safety and health. The star award and certification rewards private and public sector work sites that develop and implement outstanding safety and health programs that exceed MIOSHA standards. MIOSHA MVPP Star companies are also honored with the opportunity to mentor other companies that have an interest and desire to improve their safety and health management systems. Since receiving the award in 2002, Dow Ludington Operations has continued to successfully achieve this prestigious recertification.
