Participating

One of the ways we contribute to our community is to support our employees who volunteer their time and talents to help meet local needs. Through their volunteer work, employees help build partnerships between the company and the community. This, in turn, helps create support for the our business operations and helps Dow flourish as a local business.

The Ludington Skate Plaza Fundraising Efforts

Ludington Annual Lake Jump Space

Recently, The Dow Chemical Company Foundation made a significant financial contribution to the construction of the local Skate Plaza, a modern rollerblading and skate-boarding arena for community youth.

Dow employees joined forces with other major proponents of the Skate Plaza project including Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett and Mayor John Henderson to help enhance the community’s support for safe, recreational venues for local youth.

In addition to donating $50,000 to the project, The Foundation also sponsored a $25,000 grant to match funds raised through this year’s Lake Jump, a mid-March jump into freezing Lake Michigan aimed at raising money for community projects. Several Dow employees, during this annual event sponsored and organized by local radio station WMOM FM 102.7, also took the icy plunge to ensure that the matching grant funds were raised!

The Skate Plaza is one example of Dow’s commitment to participate in substantial projects that create a lasting, positive impact on the Ludington community.

Steppin’ Up to Clean Up

Space Dow Ludington Steppin' Up to Clean Up

Dow employees have teamed up with park officials to keep the Ludington State Park and its trails in pristine condition.  In a community effort dubbed “Steppin’ Up to Clean Up,” Dow volunteers regularly “clean up” the Skyline and Sable River Trails.  ‘The Queen of the State Parks,’ as the Ludington State Park has come to be known, features diverse ecosystems and offers visitors an abundance of outdoor activities, including hiking, canoeing and fishing.

The program was so well received that the “Steppin’ Up to Clean Up” Crew adopted the annual Ludington Fourth of July Parade as well, donning work gloves and following the floats and participants along the parade route gathering litter and debris.

In conjunction with the Alliance for The Great Lakes Annual September Beach Clean Up event, which is part of the world’s largest shoreline clean-up, The Dow Ludington "Steppin' Up to Clean Up Crew" also participates in a 2-mile beach clean-up starting at Summit Park Beach and following the Lake Michigan Shoreline, by clearing away litter and debris.

The “Steppin’ Up to Clean Up” program is a testimony to our employees’ commitment and support for their community.
