La Porte 1000th Facility in the U.S. to get EPA Award
The La Porte Site is the 1000th facility in the nation to achieve both of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental indicators under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act corrective action program.

Dow joins a stellar list of American corporations which have made a real commitment to measuring the nation’s environmental progress.

“We are proud to be recognized by EPA for this accomplishment,” said Wayne Turner, site leader. “It demonstrates that we are always working toward the goal of being good environmental stewards.”

The environmental indicators are measurements that track environmental conditions. The La Porte facility produces plastics, synthetic resins and phosgene. The plant has a compliance plan in place to ensure that no off-site human exposures are occurring and on-site exposures are adequately addressed through site safety programs. The site also has had a ground water contamination recovery program since 1989 to reduce the concentration of chlorobenzene, aniline and other contaminants.
