Public Perception Survey

Results of the 2003 Public Perception Survey
As a Responsible Care® company, Dow is sensitive to the concerns of residents who may be impacted by our operations. To respond appropriately to community issues, Dow Public Affairs researches community attitudes and perceptions of Dow and a variety of environmental issues. A Community Perception Survey was completed in 2003 in the Fort Saskatchewan community.

In Fort Saskatchewan, a total of 500 telephone interviews were conducted with residents of the Fort Saskatchewan area, 400 within the City itself and 100 in the 5-mile radius around the Dow plant. The following are key highlights of the survey results:

  • The Fort site received an overall favorability rating of 84% in 2003, up from 81% in 2001.
  • 88% of respondents feel Dow WCO is responsive and sensitive to community concerns.
  • 84% of respondents feel Dow WCO produces products of value.
  • 98% of respondents feel Dow WCO contributes to their economic prosperity.
  • 82% of respondents feel Dow WCO has employees who take part in the community.
  • 74% of respondents feel Dow WCO takes steps to limit its impact on the environment.
  • Environmental concerns continue to be the number one concern of Fort Saskatchewan area residents.

Dow is evaluating these results and creating action plans to address the community issues identified in the survey.
