Dow in Fort Saskatchewan: Community Safety and Emergency Response
Dow is committed to a “Vision of Zero”—zero incidents, injuries, illnesses and zero environmental harm. Every Dow employee is accountable for achieving this goal. If the Vision of Zero is achieved, we will have returned home safely each night and protected the health and well-being of the communities surrounding our Fort Saskatchewan site.
Dow emergency response teams are amongst the best in our industry, ready to respond to any incident related to product or worker safety. We cooperate with other local industry partners, including the Northeast Region Community Awareness and Emergency Response (NRCAER) organization, in educating the public about our operations and cooperating in our emergency response efforts. The NRCAER UPDATEline is your 24-7 source for information about current industrial site activities in the region, reachable at 1-866-653-9959.
Transportation safety is a priority for our Fort Saskatchewan site, since our products are shipped out of the site via railcar or truck. Our Fort Saskatchewan site has been honoured for six consecutive years by Canadian Pacific Railway for our safe record in managing and transporting regulated hazardous materials.
As part of its 2015 Sustainability Goals, Dow has placed a focus on product safety disclosure. By 2015, Dow will provide publicly accessible safety assessments for its products globally, addressing any relevant gaps in hazard and exposure information.
We have expanded comprehensive risk assessment programs to evaluate security around transportation of raw materials and products. Dow works closely with its logistics partners to assess the effectiveness of their safety and security programs.
