Dow Canada in Fort Saskatchewan: Community Involvement

The people who work at Dow Canada’s Fort Saskatchewan site come from many of the surrounding communities, and are proud to be volunteers for a diverse range of local organizations. Dow Canada supports their efforts through the Employee Involvement Program, which provides grants of up to $500 to support organizations with which Dow employees volunteer.

Our 2007 Community Grants Program provided funds to 13 different community organizations, including funding for French language materials at the Fort Saskatchewan Library and equipment for local seniors organizations.

We provide community investment grants to projects that focus on the following themes: sustainability, contributing to community success, science in society and innovation. Preference is given to organizations that will further Dow’s efforts to find solutions to the challenges of today: clean air, clean water and other areas essential to improving the human condition.

Among our major community investments is the Dow Centennial Centre, which is a multi-use facility for sports, recreation and events.

In fall 2007, Elk Island National Park will celebrate the inauguration of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve. Without light pollution, the area will provide the public with a clear view of the night sky. Dow and the Park have partnered to provide interpretative and outreach education programs about the Preserve, energy conservation and responsible lighting practices.

Community investment criteria and forms for our Fort Saskatchewan community investment efforts are available on the Dow Canada contributions and funding guidelines page.
