Dow Canada: Helping to create green Olympic and Paralympic Games
For three decades, Dow insulating materials and building solutions have played an integral role in the construction and operation of Olympic Games venues. In 2006, Dow Chemical Canada Inc. joined the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) as the official supplier of insulation materials and heat transfer fluids.
Dow Canada's six-year Official Supplier designation will provide sponsorship rights within Canada for the 2010 Winter Games, including sponsorship rights for the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Olympic Team for 2008, 2010, and 2012.
Dow products enhance the sustainability of Olympic venues
Sustainability has been a focal point for VANOC as it plans a “green” Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will provide a legacy of sustainable, environmentally sensitive sporting venues.
Dow Canada shares VANOC’s focus on sustainability. Our Building Solutions business will supply insulation products that will be extensively used in the construction of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic venues. These venues include the Whistler Sliding Centre, the Whistler Nordic Venue, and the Hillcrest Curling Venue. Dow insulation products will make the venues more energy efficient, moisture resistant and durable in the variable climate of the Lower Mainland and Whistler.
Working together, Dow Canada and VANOC will educate the public on how to reduce waste. A portion of Dow's sponsorship will be directed to support VANOC's sustainability objectives, which will include a focus on recycling and litter clean-up initiatives.
Dow heat transfer fluids are used in ice applications, providing for a uniform and consistent cold temperature. Athletes are given conditions in which they can excel, and buildings are warm and comfortable for spectators and athletes alike.
Dow's Heat Transfer Fluids are sold under the brand names DOWTHERM™, DOWFROST™, and UCARTHERM™ and are widely used in industrial and commercial applications for both high temperature and low temperature applications. For example, DOWTHERM SR-1 is used to maintain high quality ice in arenas and other ice sports facilities.
Dow’s Building Solutions product line features leading brands such as Dow STYROFOAM™ extruded polystyrene insulation, STYROFOAM WEATHERMATE™ housewraps and GREAT STUFF™ Pro insulating foam sealants and adhesives. Dow Building Solutions are used in residential, commercial, industrial, roofing, geotechnical and low-temperature applications.
