About Dow Canada

Basic chemicals and plastics produced at Dow Chemical Canada Inc.’s facilities are used to make products in many sectors, including personal care, transportation and home construction. Through Dow Canada, Canadian businesses enjoy access to Dow’s wide portfolio of basic and performance plastics and chemicals, produced at our facilities around the globe.

Our daily operations are guided by Responsible Care®, a voluntary initiative of the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association that emphasizes the continuous improvement of environment, health and safety performance.

Sites in Canada

Dow’s Canadian operations are centered in Alberta, with our corporate head office in Calgary, and manufacturing locations in Fort Saskatchewan, northeast of Edmonton, and Prentiss, northeast of Red Deer.

Dow also has manufacturing sites in Sarnia and Toronto, Ontario, and Varennes, Quebec.

Products Made in Canada

Our Fort Saskatchewan and Prentiss, Alberta sites make many different grades of low- and high-density polyethylene. This plastic goes into products like grocery bags and moisture barriers for construction.

The most visible example of a Dow consumer product in Canada is STYROFOAM™ brand insulation. STYROFOAM building products made at our Fort Saskatchewan, Toronto and Varennes sites are fixtures on building sites across North America.

Styrene butadiene latex made at our Varennes site is used as a binder for fine paper coatings, for carpet backing and as the basis for paints.

Ethylene glycol is produced at our Prentiss and Fort Saskatchewan sites through a 50/50 joint venture called MEGlobal™, between Dow and Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) of Kuwait, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. Ethylene glycol is a key ingredient for automobile antifreeze and as a solvent for paints.

®Responsible Care is a certification mark of the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association and Dow Canada is a licensed user of the certification marks.
