New plant in Kryukovo marks start-up of first Dow production facility in Russia

Moscow - January 11, 2007

Today it was announced the first 'made in Russia' STYROFOAM^TM brand extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation boards have shipped from a new Russian production plant built by Dow Building Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company.

The start-up of this new plant marks the first fully operational production facility of any kind by Dow in Russia.

The new XPS plant, located in Kryukovo (just outside the Moscow ring road) also signifies a first milestone in Dow’s long-term commitment and dedication to supplying Russia and Eastern Europe with technologically advanced building materials that enhance the comfort of living and working environments through effective moisture management and energy conservation.

According to Kostas Katsoglou, business president, Dow Building Solutions, "Our strategic aim is to establish Dow as an important and integral player in the building industry in Russia. This strategy is built upon our global expertise combined with a strong brand and in-depth product and application knowledge."

The new plant will also use highly advanced, ecologically clean technology to produce STYROFOAM insulation boards.

In alignment with Dow’s strategic objective to accelerate growth, Dow continues to explore further investment opportunities in the region. Dow and Izolan recently announced the formation of a joint venture company (Dow Izolan) that will provide customer-tailored, polyurethane systems products to a growing customer base in Russia. The joint venture will employ more than 100 staff and plans to construct a new, large, state-of-the-art production plant in the Vladimir area within the next two years.
