The Dow Chemical Company settled in Greffern (now part of the Rheinmünster council) in 1965. Since 1993, the site in Rheinmünster (part of Dow Deutschland  Anlagengesellschaft mbH), on the German bank of the Rhine, and the site in Drusenheim (belonging to Dow France S.A.S.), on the French bank, have formed the cross-border Dow Rhine Center. The Drusenheim site is completed by a plant complex for crop protection products belonging to Dow AgroSciences S.A.S.

Both locations, which are only six kilometers apart, are brought together under a single management team, yet in legal terms they belong to the Dow companies in the respective countries.

The eight plants on both banks of the Rhine, covering a total area of approximately 245 hectares, develop, produce and sell almost a million cubic meters of insulation and packaging foams along with some 300,000 tons of chemicals a year. Dow employs here approximately 900 people of 25 different nationalities.

Since 1983, the European Research and Development Center for epoxy resins, latex products, Dow Building Solutions products (insulation and performance foams) plastic  films and Dow Water Solutions products (water purification technologies) has been based in the Rhine Center, in Rheinmünster. About 130 scientists and technicians work on product and performance development as well as on process technology improvements
