Dow Polyurethanes is committed to developing new applications for polyurethanes that enhance everyday living. Dow Polyurethanes provide superior product performance, from greater foam rigidity and flexibility, to lighter weight, better insulation and improved strength. From concept through commercialization, Dow's Technical Service and Development personnel respond to performance and processing challenges through formulation assistance, in-plant trials and laboratory testing. Dow is the world's largest producer of polyether polyols, a leading producer of quality aromatic isocyanates (such as MDI and TDI) and a major supplier of propylene oxide, an essential component of polyether polyols. Polyether polyols comprise 90 percent of industry use. Dow offers a line of polyether polyols ranging from diols, triols and many types of amines including aromatic mannich-based polyols. The other type of polyols is polyester polyols, which represents about 10 percent of industry use. Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are part of a large and growing family of quality aromatic isocyanates. TDI is a liquid used primarily in the production of flexible foams. Polymeric MDI (PMDI) is a highly versatile product used to produce a wide variety of rigid, flexible, semi-rigid and polyisocyanurate and thermoset foams. Pure MDI is used in the production of a variety of polyurethane products like elastomers, sealants, adhesives and coatings.
