Canelands is the head office for Dow AgroSciences in South Africa. The former Farm Ag (later called Sanachem) moved to the Canelands site in 1982. A merger agreement was signed in May 1990 between Farm Ag and Sentrachem. This agreement was terminated in September 1994 and the site became a 100 percent Sentrachem-owned company.

Dow bought Sentrachem in December 1997 and in September 2000, the legal corporate name of Sanachem (Pty) Ltd was changed to Dow AgroSciences Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd. Today the site produces herbicides for use on sugar cane and broad-leaf weeds.
