Moving Beyond Clean: Providing Sustainable Solutions for Home and Institutional Care Products Dow Home & Personal Care Exhibits at 2011 China International Cleaning Industry Expo Beijing, China - May 31, 2011 As a trailblazer in sustainable development in the global home and institutional care industry, Dow Home & Personal Care, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, has participated in the 2011 China International Cleaning Industry Expo (CICIE 2011) at the Beijing National Convention Center, May 26-28, 2011. The business has showcased its broad range of products and innovative technologies for floor care, hard surface care, fabric care, bowls and dish care, personal care, and various other market applications; and has shared the latest market trends and cutting-edge technologies with visitors during the event.
"We are glad to have exhibited at the 2011 China International Cleaning Industry Expo, and have strengthened our communication and partnership with customers," said Liang Renyang, North Asia Marketing Manager, Dow Home & Personal Care. "With our leading technologies, rapid development capability, high-quality product portfolio, and in-depth understanding of the market, Dow is able to provide customers with winning formulas and sustainable solutions, and help them identify and satisfy consumers' potential needs." Dow Home & Personal Care is committed to going beyond the traditional demand for cleanliness. With a bold combination of innovative ideas and leading R&D capabilities, Dow offers advanced solutions for each market segment, to help make household and institutional products fresher, cleaner, healthier, and easier to maintain. For example, our products and solutions can help enable the following:
Dow Home & Personal Care champions ecological friendliness as one of its key brand commitments. Therefore, in selecting feedstocks, we opt for natural materials and renewable resources as much as possible to avoid the use of non-biodegradable chemicals. Emissions of organic volatiles and hydrocarbons are strictly controlled in production and processing to reduce consumption and our environmental footprint. Moreover, we will continue our efforts to improve the overall performance of end products in terms of durability, recyclability, and biodegradability. Two new products featured at the exhibition – DURAGREEN™ 4373 Polymer and ECOSURF™ EH Surfactant – clearly represent the Dow Home & Personal Care eco-friendly concept. DURAGREEN™ 4373 is a zinc-free floor care polymer which provides floor care products with the benefits of gloss, durability, stain-resistance, and removability. Its biodegradability greatly reduces its ecological footprint and lowers the cost of treating wastewater supplies to remove zinc particles. ECOSURF™ EH is a surfactant that meets the green standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency. It not only enhances the washing properties of hard surface care products, but also significantly optimizes the cost of formulation. ECOSURF™ EH also features biodegradability, effectively reducing end-product environmental footprint. To help visitors further experience Dow's differentiated advantages in each application, Dow Home & Personal Care has showcased a host of end-product samples based on different formulations in the Visitor Experience Area of its booth. Participants had an opportunity to observe, compare, test, and experience the outstanding performance, environmental attributes, and above all, the highly favorable sensory properties of the household and institutional care products enabled by Dow's innovative technologies. In addition, Dr. Jeff Mu, technical service manager of Dow Home & Personal Care, held a seminar in the subject of Sustainable and Innovative Solutions for Floor Care during the Expo to share innovative achievements and exchange ideas with customers. "Nowadays, rising environment safety concerns are making the use of zinc cross linking in floor polish compositions less desirable than before." Dr. Mu said, "Local municipalities and increasingly more end-users have begun to require the use of zinc free finishes in their custodial cleaning products and service contracts. Other trends in floor polish composition design continue to be the elimination of alkylphenol ethoxylate surfactants (endocrine disruptors), phthalates, reduction of VOC's, and ammonia (a severe respiratory tract irritant)." In his seminar, Dr. Mu has in-depth introduced how Dow Home & Personal Care's DURAGREEN™ products provide equivalent, and in some areas even better performance to current state-of-the-art floor polish compositions.
