Sami Mainich joined Dow in December 2011 and is currently the Managing Director for Dow Algeria and also has responsibility for Dow’s presence in the Maghreb, which encompasses Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. In his capacity as Managing Director, Mainich is responsible for driving the growth of Dow’s business and presence within the region and helping Dow to maintain its position as an industry leader.
The Maghreb countries are home to Dow’s largest global corporate relationship, Sonatrach. Mainich supports the business on the ground where he assists in the collaboration between geographic and business efforts in order to identify new opportunities for Dow in this key growth geography.
Prior to joining Dow, Mainich was the General Manager of Alcochim Maroc and the Deputy General Manager at Alliance Chimie Algerie, both of which are subsidiaries of Brenntag Maghreb, a commodity and specialty chemical products distributor for multinational companies such as Dow Chemical, General Electric and BASF.
Mainich has experience in numerous industries including oil and gas, water treatment, food, coating, pharmaceuticals and polyurethanes. He has worked for a number of high profile companies such as Daimler Chrysler, BP, Amoco and the global FMCG company, Procter & Gamble. His knowledge of the North African chemical business environment comes from years of experience and education in chemical engineering, specializing in polymer sciences.
Mainich has a Bachelor of Science in Polymer Engineering from the Ecole Européenne de Chimie, Polymères et Matériaux of Strasbourg. He also completed an executive MBA from the Ecole Supérieure Algérienne des Affaires. He holds French, Algerian and Moroccan citizenship and is multi-lingual with fluency in French, Arabic and English and conversational German.
