Johanna Söderström is the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources and Aviation and Chief Human Resource Officer of The Dow Chemical Company. In this role Söderström designs the leadership agenda, facilitates organizational transformation and enables Dow’s growth.
Söderström started her career with Ericsson in Finland where she held positions in Human Resources and Finance. She joined Dow in Helsinki, Finland in 1999 as HR Manager for the Nordic region and progressed through a series of Human Resource positions in Finland, Germany and Switzerland. In 2000 she moved to Stade, Germany location to serve as HR Workforce Planning Implementation Leader. Three years later, she relocated to Horgen, Switzerland to take on the role of Compensation and Benefits Leader for Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.
In 2005, Söderström assumed the role of HR Business Partner for Dow’s Hydrocarbons and Energy business. She briefly left Dow to join Huhtamaki in Finland as head of global Compensation and Benefits and returned to Dow in 2007 to take on the role of HR Geographic Leader and serve as Managing Director for Germany. Two years later, she assumed additional responsibility as HR Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India based in Horgen, Switzerland.
In late 2010, Söderström was appointed Global HR Director and Strategic Business Partner for the Performance Materials Division and relocated to Midland, Michigan. She was subsequently named Vice President, HR Center of Expertise in 2012, and appointed to her current role in December 2014.
Söderström holds a master’s degree in economics from Hanken School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the Swedish School of Business Administration. She is a board member of the Dow Chemical Company Foundation, a member of the Dow STEM Council, and chairs the Company’s Executive Network Council.
