Europe Public Policy

Competitiveness

The chemical industry is the backbone of industrialized economies. It provides inputs to almost all products and drives a huge value chain of industrial activity, employment, and innovation in Europe. For this reason we are looking for public policy and regulatory conditions that allow us to sustain and grow our industry in a highly competitive global environment; at the same time, with supportive conditions, we can play an important role in restoring sustainable industrial growth in Europe and delivering the innovative solutions needed to address global societal challenges.

It is vital to convey to Europe’s regulators – the European Union (EU) and national governments – that we need policy that is proportionate, balanced, and predictable.

A policy environment that is conducive to innovation and economic growth – as opposed to excessive and inappropriate regulation – will diminish the risk of demand and investment leakage away from European producers.
