Dow solutions are part of Rio’s main infrastructure for the Games.

The Athletes’ Village in Barra is benefiting from Dow technologies. Coating materials and construction chemicals such as WALOCEL™ were utilized in the finishing of the buildings that will host competitors from more than 200 countries. The 28 modular water tanks have been manufactured with resins from Dow’s Propylene Glycol and will store over 8 million liters of water to provide a reliable water supply system for athletes, coaches, officials and referees participating in the Games.

The MPC/IBC complex also features Dow technologies in the Exterior Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS) panels of the building’s façade. This innovative system enabled completion of the façade in 30 days, while standard technologies take up to six months to be installed.

Some of the most important access points leading to Rio are also touched by Dow science. The Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo is one of the main cargo transportation hubs for the Games. Flooring solutions and polyurethane insulation panels from Dow were utilized in the major renovation that took place at Viracopos, updating the airport for both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Rio 2016 Games. Additionally, the most important road connecting Rio to São Paulo, Rodovia Presidente Dutra, utilizes markings powered by Dow FASTRACK™ coatings technologies to ensure reliable and durable roadmarks on the pavement.
