Dow Polyurethanes has demonstrated its leading position in the two-wheel bicycle saddle industry through an initiative to provide high-performance foam solutions with Cionlli, a regional bicycle saddle customer in Asia. With support and sustainability as two critical elements that today’s flexible foam manufacturers are looking for in both their products and their supplier relationships, Dow Polyurethanes successfully delivered a higher-performing, more durable bicycle saddle which also offers a significantly improved consumer cycling experience.
The improved performance is enabled by the new technology of Dow Specflex™, which offers better comfort to riders by providing lightweight shock absorption and force reduction properties. In addition, using water as the blowing agent makes the process of foam production more sustainable by helping to reduce energy consumption, emissions and odor. Dow balanced the critical factors of performance, economics and environmental impact to produce a differentiated foam product that exceeded customer expectations.
While applying sustainable solutions to the bicycle saddle industry, Dow, a Worldwide Partner and the Official Chemistry Company of the Olympic Games, also collaborated with this customer to promote the Olympic spirit for superior performance through adding hangtags to the bicycle saddles to drive awareness of this joint program.
