Dow at the Heart of Packaging with “Make it. Use it. Save it.” Theme at interpack 2014

HORGEN, SWITZERLAND - May 08, 2014

Dow’s presence at interpack 2014 on May 8-14 in Düsseldorf, Germany will focus on the theme, “Make it. Use it. Save it.” Visitors are invited to explore these topics at the Dow cube where they will display numerous products, present a series of informative PackTalks, and provide an interactive space to discuss specific packaging needs. Visitors will see this theme in action as Dow showcases their ability to help make lighter, stronger, more cost effective packaging, develop consumer friendly and easy to use packaging, and focus on solutions to save natural resources, reduce food waste, and contribute to a more sustainable environment.

“At Dow we see ourselves at the heart of packaging”, explains Dana Mosora, value chain and sustainability leader. “Our global footprint with manufacturing facilities across the world and commitment to investing in R&D helps us deliver high-class technologies to support the evolving needs of our customers”.

Dow will exhibit a number of recent technologies and innovations including:

  • PacXpert™ Packaging Technology: An innovative packaging technology that offers the transition from traditional rigid containers to flexible packaging pouches between 2-20 liters in size. The design allows for an efficient use of space (it ships and stores flat) and is easy to transport. Once filled it allows for easy pour and high product yield. PacXpert™ Packaging Technology has received two prestigious awards: The 2013 ABRE Gold Award from the Brazilian Packaging Association and the 2013/2014 WorldStar Packaging Award from the World Packaging Organization, which will be presented at interpack 2014.
  • ELITE™ Advanced Technology 6401 Enhanced Polyethylene: A new addition for packaging applications including liquid detergents, pet food, milk and oil allowing packs to be sealed quicker with higher seal integrity.
  • MOR-FREE™ Low Monomer adhesives: new solventless laminating adhesives offering faster PAA/NCO decay to meet food legislation requirements quicker, keep a safer work environment and improve converting efficiency and cost.

“Whether we are looking to address the needs of a converter, brand owner or consumer, we know that packaging products need to be smart; from manufacturing, to use, to end-of-life,” explains Marc van den Biggelaar, marketing director for Food and Specialty Packaging and Adhesives. “Accordingly Dow uniquely offers a broad portfolio of resins, adhesives, binders and coatings for flexible and rigid primary, secondary and tertiary packaging to address the evolving needs of our customers,” van den Biggelaar added.

In addition to their exhibit at interpack, Dow will also be present at the Innovationparc Packaging area and at the SAVE FOODCongress and Forum sharing new ideas on sustainable packaging to help solve the global challenge of food shortage and waste. As a member of SAVE FOOD, a global initiative pioneered by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH to fight global food loss, Dow is firmly committed to developing sustainable packaging solutions.

A platform for value chain collaboration
Aside from a broad portfolio, Dow also understands the importance of close collaboration among value chain players in developing adequate packaging solutions. A key platform for this is Pack Studios, a global network of labs, experts and collaboration tools that addresses the acceleration of packaging innovation for Dow customers and value chain members. There are currently four Pack Studio technology centers in the US, Brazil, China and the latest one opened in Switzerland this month. Each center has dedicated spaces to inspire innovation, laboratory facilities for material structure development, and fabrication and application testing equipment to validate packaging solutions.
