CMC - Legal Requirements

WALOCEL™ CRT A - Cellulose Gum and clear+stable with its guaranteed active content of 99.5% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) meet all regulatory requirements relating to the use of CMC in food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products:

  • The standards stipilated in the ”U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Section 182.1745 - Substances that are generally recognized as safe (GRAS)” are met by all Series 7 and Series 9 WALOCEL™ CRT A - Cellulose Gum and clear+stable grades.
  • WALOCEL™ CRT A - Cellulose Gum and clear+stable comply with the identity and purity specifications relating to carboxymethyl cellulose issued in the ”Food Chemical Codex (FCC)” and by the ”Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations World Health Organization” (FAO/WHO).
  • In the European Union carboxymethyl cellulose is approved under E 466 as a food additive in the group of thickeners and gelling agents. WALOCEL™ CRT A - Cellulose Gum and clear+stable comply with the purity requirements for food additives currently in force in the EU.
  • CMC is listed and approved under the term ”Carmellose Gum” in the European Pharmacopeia, the USP and the respective national pharmacopeias.
  • CMC is listed under the term ”Cellulose Gum” in the INCI (International nomenclature on cosmetic ingredients) and approved for use in cosmetic products.
