Dow Wolff Cellulosics ranks among the world’s leading suppliers of advanced cellulosics and chemical derivatives. We have the capacity to deliver cutting-edge products to industries with extremely demanding requirements.
We produce high-performance cellulosics (methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxyethyl methylcellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, ethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose and nitrocellulose) and companion chemistries (polyethylene oxide, latex powders and cationic polymers) used for formulations across a broad variety of applications. Detailed information on the individual products and characteristics of our cellulosics offering can be found by clicking on the links provided.
Cellulose Derivatives
Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is a highly effective additive for improving product and processing characteristics in various fields of application, such as food, oral care and technical applications. CMC is also ideal as disintegrant in pharmaceuticals, and is offered through the WALOCEL™ C, WALOCEL™ CRT and clear+stable™ brand names.
Ethylcellulose products are versatile, organosoluble, thermoplastic polymers that can enhance the performance of a wide variety of applications, such as industrial coatings, pharmaceuticals, and foods. These multifunctional polymers available under the ETHOCEL™ Ethylcellulose Polymers brand name.
With their ability to provide coating, film forming, and binding functions, the toughness, inertness, and fabrication and product versatility of these polymers allow them to meet a wide range of performance requirements in sheet form, as molding and extrusion resins, as pressure casting resins, and as resins for various coatings.
In addition to industrial applications, Premium grades of ETHOCEL polymers are approved for use in regulated markets such as food and pharmaceuticals. They provide many desired benefits for pharmaceutical applications, such as masking the taste of bitter actives, forming films to enhance the strength and appearance of tablets and capsules, enabling controlled-release formulations. ETHOCEL polymers also bring binding, film forming and flavor fixative benefits to food products, to make delicious flavors last longer.
Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) products are water-soluble polymers that thicken, form films, exhibit pseudoplastic solution behavior, tolerate salts, and retain water. This versatile family of products is offered under the CELLOSIZE™ Hydroxyethyl Cellulose brand, and is widely used in latex paints, building materials, oilfield chemicals, and cleaning products, along with many other specialty applications.
Hydroxyethyl Methylcellulose (HEMC)
Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose provides many of the same benefits as other methylcellulose derivatives, such as the ability to efficiently thicken and provide water retention, These products, offered under the WALOCEL™ M brand, are frequently used within construction materials applications such as tile adhesives, grouts, mortars and plasters.
Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC)
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose polymers are well-known for their ability to bind, retain water, thicken, form films, and provide many other performance benefits. An essential polymer, HPMC delivers the unique ability to enable controlled-release formulas and reverse thermal gelation. We offer these products under the METHOCEL™ Cellulose Ethers and WALOCEL™ HM brands, along with decades of expertise using these polymers in regulated markets such as food, and pharmaceuticals.
Methylcellulose and derivatives (MC)
One of the products at the core of our offering, methylcellulose is a versatile, multifunctional polymer that provides many desired benefits. Similar to HPMC, methylcellulose is water-soluble and can function as a binder, water retention aid, thickener, film former, lubricant, and rheology modifier. We offer these products under the METHOCEL™ Cellulose Ethers and WALOCEL™ M brands, and invite you to learn more about how they can benefit building and construction materials, paint removers, and several specialty applications, in addition to the applications listed for hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
Nitrocellulose is an excellent cellulose derivative for many high-tech specialty applications, such as film, medical and diagnostic testing, and industrial coatings. We offer various product forms and viscosities of nitrocellulose under the brands of WALSRODER™ Nitrocellulose.
Soluble dietary fiber products are important to food and nutritional supplement manufacturers looking to incorporate additional dietary fiber into their products. As one of our newest, most innovative brands, we offer FORTEFIBER™ Soluble Dietary Fiber products to effectively deliver proven health benefits related to maintaining healthy levels of blood glucose, cholesterol, and insulin.
Complementary Chemistries
Our range of high-performance cellulose-based polyanionic polymers are offered under the ANTISOL™ FL brand. These specialized polymers are ideal for use in the oil, gas and water drilling industries.
Our Poly(ethylene) Oxide resins are offered under the POLYOX™ Water-Soluble Resins brand name. They provide binding, thickening, lubricity, water retention, and film formation benefits to deliver excellent performance in a variety of applications – such as pharmaceuticals, mining, paper, and cleaning products. They're also thermoplastic materials that are readily calendered, extruded, injection molded, or cast, to provide even greater formulation and processing flexibility.
Redispersible polymer powders combine the performance benefits of liquid latex modifiers with the convenience, reliability and handling and storage advantages of one-component dry systems. Offered under the DOW™ Latex Powders brand, redispersible polymer powders are designed for the construction industry, primarily as additives for cement- or gypsum-based dry blend products.
