Midland, MI - March 12, 2009
The Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”) announced today that it will exhibit at the upcoming Wellness 09 conference, sponsored by Food Technology, a publication of the Institute of Food Technologists. The conference will take place March 25-26, 2009 in Rosemont, Illinois.
“We are excited to participate in the first Wellness conference organized by Food Technology,” said Clara Millard-Dereudre, global marketing manager for Food & Nutrition at Dow. “The topics to be covered in the conference are an excellent fit with our strategy to deliver innovative, healthy solutions to the market for convenience foods, and help our customers meet consumers’ demands.”
Solutions from Dow to be showcased at Wellness 09 include FORTEFIBER™ Soluble Dietary Fiber and METHOCEL MX™ Fat Replacement Technology. Clinically proven to help maintain healthy blood glucose, insulin and cholesterol levels, FORTEFIBER can be added to baked goods such as biscuits and bars, confectionery products, and pastas. Unlike other sources of soluble dietary fiber, it is non-allergenic and non-fermentable at typical product formulation levels.
METHOCEL MX Fat Replacement Technology is an innovative technology that can be used to replace trans and saturated fats in meat and bakery products with healthier liquid oils, such as olive or canola. Using METHOCEL MX in these applications enables formulators to reduce the fat content of their products by up to 60 percent, while maintaining the taste, texture and succulence consumers expect from full-fat baked goods and meat products.
In addition to the products and technologies listed above, Dow offers other ingredients derived from cellulose to help customers meet specific formulation needs, such as for allergen-free and vegetarian foods. “Today, formulators are looking for technologies that can help them address health while being cost effective, given the challenging global economy,” said Millard-Dereudre. “We are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of solutions to help them do this, while also helping to improve foods’ nutritional profiles and maintain the taste and texture consumers expect.”
