Bomlitz, Germany - February 11, 2009
Dow Wolff Cellulosics, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), inaugurated the opening of its new Methylcellulosics manufacturing facility in Bitterfeld, Germany with invited guests from local government and industry.
“This facility is currently one of the world’s largest and a very competitive Methylcellulosics plant. It operates with state of the art technology, and helps to enable Dow to further increase supply reliability and global manufacturing flexibility,” said Martin Sonntag, general manager of Dow Wolff Cellulosics.
This additional methylcellulose capacity in Bitterfeld will further strengthen Dow’s supply capabilities for all market segments, thus underlining the leading role played by Dow’s Cellulosics business as a supplier of high-quality cellulose derivatives.
Dow’s investment in cellulosics is a key element of Dow’s overall corporate growth strategy and a step towards changing the game in the industry through more sustainable chemistry based on renewable resources.
“With five Methylcellulosics sites and four additional specialty chemicals manufacturing sites worldwide, we can offer a competitive and reliable multiple site-based sourcing grid for our customers around the globe. Cellulosics and their formulation are core to our business and, as specialty products, a key element of Dow’s overall corporate growth strategy. Our combined plans for expanded capacity and specialized capabilities reflect Dow’s commitment to all customers in major industries that consume cellulose ethers, and are supported by Dows technical support capabilities, global reach, long-term focus and reliable operations”, said Paul Gunnar Schlüter, global asset director for Dow Wolff Cellulosics.
