Springtime Patchwork Vase and Flower Arrangement

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Using serrated knife, cut 1/2" slice from the top and bottom of foam egg. (HINT: For smoother cuts, wax the knife blade with an old candle.)
2. Using melon baller, gently scoop out a cavity in bottom of egg, keeping a 1/2" thick wall around the cavity; the opening should be large enough to hold the weights.
3. Using acrylic finish as the glue, cover the egg with fabric pieces, none larger than 3" square; leave bottom and top of egg uncovered. Continue to coat egg with acrylic finish until desired sheen is achieved, letting dry between coats. (Model shown used eight coats.) After last coat dries, lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper. Wipe clean. Spray with acrylic finish.
4. Glue weights in cavity, packing in scraps of foam around and over weights.
5. Trace bottom of vase on felt; cut out and glue to bottom of vase.
6. Cut flowers and ivy stems to desired lengths. Arrange and insert in top of vase.
7. Make a six-loop bow with center knot; secure with floral wire. Glue bow to front of arrangement.
