Felt, 9" x 12" black
Cardboard, 4" square
Ribbon, 1/4" x 2/3 yd., black
Fabric: 1/4 yd. (scarf)
Fringe, 10"
Small berry sprig
Soupspoon
Paintbrush
Fine sandpaper
Serrated knife
Old candle
Awl, or other pointed tool
Thick white craft glue
Low temperature glue gun and glue sticks

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Wax knife blade with an old candle for easier cutting. Cut small slice from top and bottom of 5" and 6" balls. Cut small slice from bottom of 4" ball. Assemble snowman, gluing generously. Brush off crumbs and smooth surface of snowman using back of soupspoon. Brush on coat of gesso; let dry and sand lightly. Repeat with second coat.

2. Paint snowman blue-gray; let dry. Brush on thick coat of crackle medium, following manufacturer's instructions. After designated drying time, paint snowman white, painting in strokes going in many directions. Set aside and let cracks develop. When thoroughly dry, paint on decoupage finish.

3. Glue on eyes. Paint nose bead orange; insert and glue in face. Paint on small gray mouth. Blush cheeks.

4. Using pattern, cut two hat brims from black felt and one from cardboard. Cut from felt 2-1/2" dia. circle for top of hat and 7-3/8" x 2-1/2" strip for crown. Sandwich cardboard brim between two felt brims; glue using white craft glue. Glue edges of crown together, forming tube that fits around hole in brim; glue tube to brim. Glue on top of hat. Glue ribbon around bottom and top of crown. Glue berry sprig to hat where crown meets brim.

5. Cut 20" x 5" length of fabric; fold in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam along edge; clip, turn and press. Sew fringe along ends. Tie on snowman.

6. Determine location and position of arms and using awl, make a very mall hole in each side of snowman. Place a dot of glue in hole and push stick 3/4" deep in snowman.

7. Glue pearl buttons down front of snowman.
