INSTRUCTIONS:
To make one snowman:
1. Turn tube sock inside out; cut off cuff. Insert wide end of 6" egg in sock; push egg almost to the toe and cut off excess toe fabric. Using dental floss, sew running stitch around cut edges; draw floss tightly and tie to secure. Push egg as far as possible into sock, pull sock tightly around narrow end of egg; cut off excess sock and sew with dental floss, as above. Repeat, using 3" egg.
2. Cut craft stick in half. Glue head and body together, with craft stick inserted between the pieces.
3. Using pattern and a scrap from socks, cut and sew two arms, terry cloth sides together. Trim and turn arms, stuff with polyfil, and sew end closed. Wrap thread tightly around arm, 1/2" from end, forming hand; tie off thread. Glue arms to shoulders of snowman.
4. Paint end of toothpick orange; cut off 1" piece and insert in face for nose. Glue on eyes. Cut mouth from ultra suede or felt; glue in place. Blush cheeks.
5. Glue three buttons down center front. Glue on hat. Accessorize snowman by adding apron, bandana scarf or a bow tied around neck. Coil rope or cord into lasso shape; glue to hands. Or, add frying pan.
6. Repeat Steps 1 - 5 for two additional snowmen.
Dog
7. Place narrow end of 2-1/2" egg in circle cut from gray sock; sew running stitch around edges and pull tightly; tie to secure. Repeat with 2" egg, placing egg on its side and gathering sock on the opposite side (where the sock is gathered on the side will be the neck; the small end of egg is the nose).
8. Glue and insert toothpick in neck of 2" egg; glue and insert other end of toothpick in narrow end of 2-1/2" egg.
9. Glue on eyes and 1/4" domed button for nose. Cut mouth and small, floppy ears from ultra suede or felt; glue to face. Blush cheeks.
10. Sew arms from scraps of gray sock, as in Step 3. Sew paw lines with black thread; cut out two small circles from ultra suede or felt and glue to paws for pads. Glue arms to shoulders. Sew and stuff tail (optional); glue in place. Add collar around neck.
Base
11. Wax knife with old candle for easier cutting. Determine desired size and shape for base and cut out. The model uses a kidney-bean shaped base, approximately 12" long and 6" wide. Round edges using fingers and smooth rough edges by "sanding" with a scrap of foam.
12. Determine where snowmen will sit on base and carve out three indentations.
13. Cut open sock. Place base on sock, top down, and pull fabric tightly over base; pin and glue to bottom.
14. Cut craft stick in half. In the center of one of the indentations, carefully cut a small lit; glue and insert one end of craft stick. Spread glue on base and push snowman onto craft stick. Repeat for remaining two snowmen. Glue dog to base.
