In May 2003, The Dow Chemical Company and General Motors Corporation (GM) announced the world's largest hydrogen fuel cell agreement to date. The intent of the program is for GM to commercialize its fuel cell technology using Dow's experience in the process.
On February 10, 2004, Dow and GM took another step in this historic initiative, with the installation and start up of the first fuel cell in Freeport, Texas. On Nov. 29, 2004, Dow and GM announced the second phase of this project, marking the successful installation and operation of a multi-cell pilot plant at Dow's Texas Operations. Today Dow and GM are several small but significant steps ahead, in the search for cost-effective fuel alternatives with the potential to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
