Dow To Showcase Innovations at American Coatings Show 2012

Philadelphia, PA - May 3, 2012

Four businesses within The Dow Chemical Company will showcase innovations in coatings and other materials at the American Coatings Show (ACS) in Indianapolis May 8-10, 2012. Delivering on their collective "Rethink Coatings" strategy, experts from Dow Coating Materials, Dow Performance Additives, Dow Epoxy, and Dow Construction Chemicals will meet with industry professionals at Dow’s booth #1800.

Ten Dow experts will deliver technical presentations on coatings industry topics, including "The Development of New Low Emission Epoxy Curing Agents for Ambient Cure Applications” and "Development of Novel Crosslinking Resins for Waterborne Wood Finishes." In addition, Dow experts will share presentations highlighting new additives for architectural coatings and new ways to formulate interior and exterior paints using less TiO2 without sacrificing performance.

Dow Coating Materials will showcase technology innovations that include EVOQUE™ Pre-Composite Polymers and ROPAQUE™ Opaque Polymer for 10-20% (and in some cases even more) TiO2 reductions in interior and exterior architectural coatings, new ACRYSOL™ v6x HASE and HEUR Rheology Modifiers, next generation TAMOL™ 2011 Dispersant, and technology advances for industrial wood and metal coatings. DCM will also debut its new and improved Hiding OpTiO2nizer™ Reformulation Tool for calculating optimum TiO2 reduction with ROPAQUE Opaque Polymer in interior and exterior architectural paint formulations, as well as introduce a new industrial business segment and branded line of products to help manufacturers produce coatings that protect industrial, commercial and public structures from extreme conditions.

Dow Performance Additives will highlight ANGUS™ Multifunctional Neutralizer Technology, which offers benefits throughout the coating life cycle. AMP™ Multifunctional Neutralizer, the industry standard, offers unrivaled performance, low odor, excellent base strength, efficient pigment dispersion, and enhanced scrub resistance. For formulators who want to develop "green" architectural coatings, AEPD™™ VOX Multifunctional Neutralizer has the same or better performance characteristics as with AMP, while achieving ultra-low VOC (<5g/L) and odor requirements.

Dow Epoxy has introduced a broad portfolio of epoxy products designed for the civil engineering industry, featuring new, high-performance D.E.H.™ Curing Agents. Its expanded portfolio includes epoxy components, specialty resins, and curing agents, as well as resin blends and formulated hardener solutions to meet specific application requirements. The expanded line is tailored to the civil engineering market for applications such as concrete primers, self-leveling flooring, trowel-applied flooring, industrial flooring, grouts and mortars, concrete crack repair, and coatings for secondary containment. Specialty offerings in the expanded epoxy portfolio include low-emission and waterborne curing agents.

Dow Construction Chemicals (DCC) offers a range of coating and construction chemical technologies that help facilitate high-performance, sustainable and energy efficient products in the building and construction industry. The business’ new quickset technology for elastomeric roof coatings, RHOPLEX™ EC-3000 Acrylic Polymer, allows coatings to cure quickly after application, even in high-humidity, lower temperatures and overcast conditions. The business’ decades of experience in water-based chemistries has delivered a line of acrylic polymers for concrete coatings and cure membranes. These technologies not only help improve the durability of concrete and protect it from degradation, but also enhance the aesthetics of concrete surfaces. Finally, painter’s caulk and other sealant formulations made with RHOPLEX™ 4400 Polymer Technology can be freed of the effects of plasticizer, resulting in reduced glossing, paint discoloration and mildew pick-up. In addition to its plasticizer-free benefits, RHOPLEX™ 4400 Polymer also facilitates ultra-low formaldehyde, APEO-free and low VOC formulations.
