John Klier Director, Global Research and Development Dow Coating Materials |
John Klier is Global Research and Development (R&D) Director for Dow Coating Materials, a global business unit of The Dow Chemical Company. He is responsible for leading global architectural and industrial coating R&D efforts, including the unit’s innovation pipeline and portfolio. Klier began his current role in 2009, when the Dow Coating Materials R&D organization was formed, following the acquisition of Rohm and Haas.
Klier joined Dow’s Corporate R&D laboratories in 1989. He served in various R&D roles in the areas of consumer product formulations, specialty coatings, water soluble polymers, specialty fibers, polyolefins and elastomers, wire and cable compounds, corporate New Ventures and Core R&D. Prior to joining Dow Coating Materials, Klier served as R&D director for Dow’s Core R&D New Products Laboratory.
Klier earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and completed his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Purdue University.
