What's great about working at Dow?
The best part about working at Dow is the diversity – diversity of people, diversity of jobs, diversity of opportunities. I don't like to be bored, and Dow provides me with the opportunity to always be learning and working on exciting things.
My career development advice
The greatest learning that I had early in my career involved a change of mindset. In college and graduate school, the path is pretty clear, and everyone has very similar opportunities, allowing students to perform and be compared on a common basis. In the working world, career paths are varied, which means your performance is being compared to different people with different opportunities and even different skill sets. It isn't enough to just perform at your best along any given career path; you also have to find the career path that is best for you.
A memorable opportunity in my career
My greatest opportunity has been the fact that I've had managers who are interested in both my success and the success of Dow, and who realize the two are synergistic. They have listened to my career aspirations and have helped me tailor my career path.
Important mentoring experience
I have had several excellent mentors while at Dow, and each of them has contributed to my career and personal development. The most important part of my mentoring experience is realizing that it is an evolving process and that I should always look for new folks who can develop a different part of my skill set. Variety is an important aspect of the mentoring process.
