Dow Canada - Varennes

Community Involvement

Dow Chemical Canada strives to be welcomed and wanted in the communities in which it operates.  Dow Canada believes that open communication and close ties with the communities contributes to achieving this goal.

This is why Dow has organized Community Advisory Panels (CAPs) in many of our plant communities, including Varennes.  The goal of each CAP is to build trust, cooperation and mutual respect between the company and the community, enabling a two-way dialogue between site management and local stakeholders in order to get feedback about our site and community activities. It also provides a forum to address concerns before they become issues.  CAP members are community residents that represent a broad cross-section of local interests, including health, education, civic, youth and Dow’s “near neighbours.”

The Dow Varennes CAP meets on a quarterly basis. We urge you to contact the Varennes site at 1.450.652.1000 if you have a concern you would like addressed at the next CAP meeting, or would like to receive minutes from previous meetings.

The site works closely withe the city of Varennes as one of the promoters of CMMI (Comité Municipal Mixte Industries de Varennes), which informs citizens about incident scenarios which could potentially happen in the industrial sector and provide guidance as to what to do if such an incident were to happen.  The site is also a member of the AIV (Association Industrielle de Varennes) and of the AMV (aide mutuelle de Varennes) to provide assistance should an indicent happen to one of its members. The site also belongs to the Association Canadienne des fabricants de produits chimiques (ACFPC).
