Contributing to Community Success

Dow Chemical Canada strives to be welcomed and wanted in the communities where we operate. Achieving this goal requires open communications and a commitment to make a difference through meaningful contributions and community involvement.

Dow Canada has contributed to a variety of non-profit organizations and programs that enhance local quality of life. Through employee volunteerism, grants and sponsorships we have played an active role in making our communities better places to live, work and play. Over the years, we have funded projects that focus on the themes of sustainability, contributing to community success, science in society and innovation. Among them are Habitat for Humanity builds, ACTUA science education programs, and environmental initiatives through the Alberta EcoTrust Foundation. Dow Canada is currently an Official Supplier of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and we are sponsoring Canada’s Sliding Sports Athletes from 2008 to 2012.

Dow Canada’s national contributions programs are under review to assess how we can most effectively respond to community needs. Local grant programs are underway at the Fort Saskatchewan  and Prentiss, Alberta sites.

Past National Contributions:

Dow Canada was an Official Supplier of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

In 2006, Dow Canada joined the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) as the Official Supplier of Insulation Materials and Heat Transfer Fluids.

Sharing VANOC’s focus on sustainability, Dow Canada helped VANOC deliver the greenest Games ever through a legacy of sustainable, environmentally sensitive sporting venues. By supplying insulation products for the construction of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games venues (including the Whistler Sliding Centre and the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Centre), our Building Solutions group has made the venues more energy efficient, moisture resistant and durable in the variable climate of the Lower Mainland and Whistler. In addition, Dow heat transfer fluids were used in ice applications, providing for a uniform and consistent cold temperature. Athletes were given conditions in which they could excel, and buildings were warm and comfortable for spectators and athletes alike.

Sponsoring Canada's Sliding Sports Athletes

Dow Canada was proud to sponsor Canada’s Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge athletes quest for the international podium and contribute to the success of the Human Element.

Over the term of the sponsorship, which runs to 2012, Canada's sliding sports athletes will also benefit from Dow products such as epoxy resins which are used on the high-performance sleds, and insulation materials and cooling fluids which are used in the construction and operation of the tracks. In addition, Dow will have a presence at World Cup competitions in Canada, and be a sponsor of the America's Cup Calgary, an international competition which boasts the best development bobsleigh athletes from around the world.
