EducanDow – Candeias (Bahia): in partnership with the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), EducanDOW promotes education of science and technology within elementary schools in Candeias, State of Bahia. The two pillars are the training of teachers and the integration of ICT - Information and Communication Technologies in education. In the Multidisciplinary Laboratory of Science and Technology, implemented in Unity School of SESI, in Candeias, several virtual learning environments were created for more than 300 registered users.

Força Jovem – Candeias (Bahia): through recreational/theatrical activities and community actions, this initiative was developed in partnership with Social Services of Industry (SESI), to contribute to the economic and social development of young people in the Pasto de Fora and Madeira municipalities in Candeias, State of Bahia. A group of 75 young people between 13 and 19 years of age is selected every year to participate in a training program focused on human development, citizenship and entrepreneurship. The training program includes lectures, practical workshops, plays, and other educational activities.

Saúde Oral – Caboto and Matarandiba (Bahia): in order to address a community need in Caboto, the Saúde Oral project was created in 1993 near Dow's Industrial Complex. At the time, most residents had never been to the dentist and didn't have the habit of brushing their teeth. Today, this program has also been implemented in Matarandiba, where Dow has a mining plant. This prevention program was developed with Social Services of Industry (SESI), and sees 2,500 patients a year. It is focused on preventive education, personal care, and assisting children, especially those who are of school age. Since the beginning of the program, the number of cavities detected in children living in the area has dropped 70%.

Youth Ambassadors – São Paulo: promoted by the U.S. Embassy in Brazil and supported by Dow since 2007, the Youth Ambassadors program offers exchange opportunities to underprivileged young Brazilians. The exchange opportunity includes three weeks in Washington, D.C. for English classes, cultural immersion, and international experiences.

Na Mão Certa – São Paulo: an initiative by Childhood Brasil (use tag rel=”nofollow” for the link) (WCF Institute), this project focuses on efforts by public authorities and private enterprises, including Dow, to prevent the sexual exploitation of children and teenagers in Brazilian roads. The purpose of this initiative is to raise awareness of truck drivers regarding their role in protecting children and teenagers.

Contributions to Matarandiba and Caboto Schools (Bahia):
books and school supplies are donated each year to two schools, one in Matarandiba and one in Caboto. It also includes efforts to preserve the physical integrity of schools. Approximately 500 students are directly benefited every year.
