Metalworking Fluids Solutions from Dow Biocides
Dow offers an extensive line of biocides that protect against microbial degradation in metalworking fluids. The following products provide a cost-effective way to extend the life of a fluid, reduce tool wear, and maintain a safe work environment.

NEW- BIOBAN DB-20™ Antimicrobial is a fast-acting, non-oxidizing and non-sensitizing biocide that can reduce a heavy bio burden within hours so a preservative can be added to the sump. Compatible with all types of metalworking fluids, BIOBAN DB-20 is effective at alkaline pH, is non-corrosive, it does not release formaldehyde and does not cause foaming.

AMICAL Preservatives are an EPA-registered fungicide for industrial products and process systems such as metalworking fluds. Useful for the control of microbial degredation as an extremely effective active antifungal agent, AMICAL Preservatives are effective over a broad pH range (2-11), are not dermally-irritating, and are available in easy-to-use liquid or powder forms.

BIOBAN™ CS-1135 is a broad-spectrum bactericide based on oxazolidine (4,4-dimethyl-oxazolidine) chemistry. A cost-effective antimicrobial that offers both performance and stability in alkaline systems and products such as metalworking fluids, BIOBAN CS-1135 helps prevent bacterial degradation which often results in gas production, off-odors, changes in color and loss of viscosity and film forming properties. Its active component is both water and oil-soluble, and does not contain any metallic or halogenated compounds, or any organic derivatives of sulfur, boron or phosphorus.

BIOBAN™ CS-1246 is a broad-spectrum bactericide based on oxazolidine (1-aza-3,7-dioxa-5-ethylbicyclo (3.3.0) octane) chemistry, designed to prevent microbial degradation of oil, emulsifying agents and other components in metalworking fluids. An effective tankside and concentrate antimicrobial agent for metalworking fluids, BIOBAN CS-1246 can be used in soluble, synthetic and semi-synthetic fluids, and is best suited for systems where the pH is greater than 7.

BIOBAN™ P-1487 is an effective antibacterial and antifungal agent. This reaction product contains the two active ingredients 4-(2-nitrobutyl)-morpholine and 4,4'-(2-ethyl-2-nitrotrimethylene) dimorpholine which are unique in terms of their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and compatibility. BIOBAN P-1487 provides the following benefits when formulated into metalworking fluids: broad-spectrum activity; compatibility with soluble oil, semi-synthetic and synthetic metalworking fluids, and straight oils; long-lasting activity; and protection at the oil/water interface.

TAUNOVATESM High-Throughput microbiological testing capabilities help customers contain biocide treatment costs while achieving optimal operational performance. Available globally, TAUNOVATE screening techniques are a key method Dow provides to customers for quick, accurate and cost-effective analysis of formulation challenges to ensure optimal preservation solutions.

UCONEX™ Antimicrobials, are a family of metalworking fluid biocides consisting of Glutaraldehyde-based products UCONEX 345 Antimicrobial and UCONEX 315 Antimicrobial which are extremely effective in controlling bacteria and fungi. These aqueous solutions of 45% and 15% Glutaraldehyde respectively, are broad-spectrum biocides that can be effectively used over a wide range of pH and temperature conditions. UCONEX 345 is extremely effective in aluminum processing, not adding to the corrosion and staining usually found in this application. In fact, several metals showed decreased corrosion in a solution of UCONEX 345.

SUMP BUDDY* Antimicrobial Time–Release Tablets are a solid form of DBNPA (2,2-dibromo-3-nitrilopropionamide), a highly effective biocide used in metalworking fluids for machining and grinding operations. Providing highly effective microbial control at very low use rates, SUMP BUDDY tablets are convenient and cost effective, increasing the life of your metalworking fluids and decreasing the amount of handling, treatment and monitoring required.
