Dow Microbial Control Offers New Non-Phthalate Biocide Products

With the growing concern over the potential health effects of products made with certain phthalates, legislation is being put in place in many countries to restrict or limit the use of these additives in plastics. Dow Microbial Control, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company ("Dow"), has introduced two, new non-phthalate biocide products, VINYZENE™ IT 3020 CPF and VINYZENE™ IT 4008 CPF. The non-phthalates carriers were developed for compounders and processors of flexible PVC and other polymers who desire or are required to avoid the use of phthalate additives in their products. VINYZENE IT 4008 CPF and VINYZENE IT 3020 CPF are effective fungicides that provide long-term preservation against fungal attack and prevent surface growth, permanent staining, embrittlement and premature product failure. "Both of these new VINYZENE products increase the value and enhance the durability of several plastic products, which marks a significant step forward for the plastics industry as well as our commitment to developing more sustainable products for our customers," said Hong Zheng, strategic marketing manager for plastics preservation, Dow Microbial Control. "And to further meet our customers' global regulatory requirements, Dow Microbial Control maintains extensive microbiological, chemical and physical testing facilities to help manufacturers determine the optimum level of biocide agent required for each compound." At concentrations between 0,4% and 0,6%, VINYZENE IT 3020 CPF is recommended for vinyl film and sheeting, extruded profiles, plastisols, molded goods, organosols and fabric coatings. VINYZENE IT 4008 CPF is recommended for vinyl film and sheeting, extruded profiles, plastisols, molded goods, organosols, fabric coatings, urethanes and urethane foams, and similar polymeric systems at concentrations between 1,0% and 1,5%. For outdoor applications, a level of 1.5% is recommended in vinyl formulations for maximum effectiveness.
