Investment In China Spurs Growth for ANGUS Chemical Company and Dow Biocides

Guangzhou, China - November 07, 2006

ANGUS Chemical Company (ANGUS), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company, and Dow Biocides, a business group of The Dow Chemical Company, have made sizable investments in the past year to increase their capabilities in China to provide local solutions to customers.

“China is a very important market for ANGUS and Dow Biocides. For years customers have depended on ANGUS for unique nitroalkane-based chemistries and on Dow for leading biocide solutions,” said Vincent Zeng, regional commercial manager, China, ANGUS and Dow Biocides. “Both businesses have made substantial investments for future progress – from quality local sourcing of products to building local customer application technology centers. We have significantly increased the number of customer application specialists and technologists in China so customers have better access to technological expertise in local language and a thorough understanding of local needs and market issues,” Zeng said.

Earlier this year, ANGUS and Dow Biocides opened a customer application center in Shanghai, and a second center in Guangzhou is scheduled to open in early 2007. The centers will provide customers with state-of-the-art technology to identify cost effective strategies and formulations.

“With the new application centers, our customers can count on access to proprietary testing resources, like advanced formulation testing methodologies such as TAUNOVATE^sm high-throughput testing, and highly-trained microbiologists to solve their unique challenges,” said Zeng.

TAUNOVATE high-throughput microbial testing provides a comprehensive evaluation of existing microbial challenges and current biocide performance, while offering valuable insight about how to optimize operations. The qualitative accuracy of TAUNOVATE testing capabilities enables Dow Biocides customers to test a variety of biocide options, including different concentrations of the existing biocide, other biocide products and even combinations of biocides.

In addition, Dow Biocides has expanded its in-China product offering to provide customers with a variety of enhanced products and solutions for the paints and coatings industry. Manufactured in China, and initially launched to the Chinese market, CANGUARD™ CMIT allows Dow Biocides to offer a complete solutions package for in-can preservation and hygiene control. The company also recently launched the following products to the Chinese market: FILMGUARD™ OIT, a dry-film fungicide, and CANGUARD™ ULTRA BIT, a high purity in-can preservative.
