Dow Biocides Launches Innovative New GLUTEX™ Product Solutions London - November 30, 2005 Dow Biocides, a business group of The Dow Chemical Company, is launching GLUTEX™ sanitizers and antimicrobials, a product portfolio specifically designed for animal housing biosecurity. GLUTEX sanitizers are proprietary formulated concentrates that contain the highly effective proven broad spectrum microbiocide glutaraldehyde with other efficacy enhancing additives. GLUTEX sanitizers were previously sold as UCARSAN™ sanitizers. In addition, GLUTEX antimicrobials are a new range of pre-formulated, ready-to-use products combining glutaraldehyde with the patented G-cide* complex GX+ from independent biotech company GX Laboratories, based in Killarney, Ireland. Often using lower concentrations of the active molecule than other disinfectants while retaining exceptional germicidal efficacy, GLUTEX antimicrobials fill the needs of entire farm disinfection and sanitization programs with hand washes, foot baths, high foam degreasers/sanitizers, low foam sanitizers and a waterless hand sanitizer. The G-cide complex GX+ is a pH neutral stabilized glutaraldehyde solution which provides a disinfectant and biocide with impressive killing power, but minimizes many problems often associated with biocides such as skin irritation and sensitization. "As the world's largest biocides producer, we understand the chemical nature of our products, and the utmost importance of safety and handling of biocides. With an enhanced focus on the animal housing biosecurity market, we have a reliable and proven product portfolio which we are now extending with a range of ready-to-use formulations," said Mark Henning, general manager Dow Biocides. The GLUTEX product portfolio is proven efficacious across a wide range of viruses which are pathogenic to animals including Infectious Bursal Disease Virus, Foot and Mouth Disease and Newcastle Disease. Most recently, independent testing at the CDC (Center for Disease Control)-certified Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, USA proved GLUTEX products to be effective against the highly pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza strain. "The importance of our new test data specifically against the current 'Bird Flu' virus illustrates how Dow Biocides is actively pursuing prevention methods to get products into the hands of the people who need it the most," said Jerry Konst, global marketing manager for animal housing biosecurity. "In addition to adding a new range of formulated products, we have also developed education protocol materials to help farmers and processors implement a complete farm disinfection and sanitization program." Dow Biocides has also signed an exclusive agreement with GX Laboratories to supply the active ingredient glutaraldehyde to their independent disinfectant range GX+ for use in medical and hospital-related markets.
