Shanghai, China - November 16, 2005

As the global industry leader, Dow Biocides, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is introducing CMIT/MIT (5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), one of the world's most largely used preservatives, into its product portfolio to further expand its product offering and provide customers with a variety of enhanced products and solutions for the paints and coatings industry. Manufactured in China, and initially launched to the Chinese market, CMIT/MIT allows Dow Biocides to offer a complete solutions package for in-can preservation and hygiene control.

"The CMIT/MIT product introduction combined with manufacturing capability in China is a truly exciting development for Dow Biocides. The additional product solutions provide us with greater ability to meet customer needs while local manufacturing capability positions our business for long-term growth in China," said Mark Henning, general manager, Dow Biocides. "China is a very important market for Dow Biocides. We are committed to making investments for future progress in the biocides industry and offering our Chinese customers quality local sourcing of Dow Biocides products and technology."

The CMIT/MIT products will be available as CANGUARD™ CM14 preservative and CANGUARD CM1P5 preservative. While initially launched in China, CMIT/MIT will become available around the world as individual country regulatory approvals are granted.

"We have the broadest number of actives in combination with employee expertise to develop formulations, as well as technology such as TAUNOVATESM high throughput testing to help optimize formulations for our customers in the Chinese coatings industry," said Mark Saurin, global marketing manager for paints and coatings, Dow Biocides.
