Dow Announces New Addition to Biocides Product Family for Metalworking Fluids Buffalo Grove, IL - May 16, 2005 The Dow Chemical Company has announced the introduction of a new biocide product for the metalworking fluids market segment. BIOBAN-DB 20 Antimicrobial is a non-oxidizing and non-sensitizing sump side biocide that aggressively combats the contamination that can negatively impact metalworking operations and final product quality. Registered in California, and compatible with all types of metalworking fluids, BIOBAN-DB 20 (2,2-dibromo-3-nitriloprompionaminde) is fast acting and can reduce a heavy bio burden within hours when a preservative can be added to the sump. Effective at low levels, BIOBAN DB-20 combined with lower levels of existing preservatives can help reduce long-term preservative costs for end-users. “Using a sump side biocide is a key method of combating contamination and reducing bacteria,” said Nanette Hermsen, global marketing manager for metalworking fluids for Dow Biocides. “BIOBAN DB-20 has the functionality to dramatically diminish microbial bioburden and reduce needless cost by promoting the long-term preservation of metalworking fluids.” If left unchecked, contamination of metalworking fluids can cause a drop in pH levels, splitting of the emulsion, odor, reduced tool life, corrosion and/or health problems. BIOBAN DB-20 is specially formulated to combat this challenge while remaining non-corrosive, effective at alkaline pH, and greatly reducing microbial resistance. Boasting one of the industry's largest and most diverse product portfolios, Dow Biocides offers a product for just about every type of microbial challenge and system requirement. The performance capabilities range from high to low pH performance, quick kill to sustained performance and a range of registrations unparalleled in the industry. Dow is a leader in science and technology, providing innovative chemical, plastic and agricultural products and services to many essential consumer markets.
