Dow first started off in Europe in 1955. A business office was opened in Rotterdam from which the European market was explored.
The production plant in Terneuzen was officially opened 10 years later. It developed into the biggest production location of Dow outside the United States. This is also where Dows head office in the Benelux is located.
History Terneuzen
In 1962 Dow built a plant in the Nieuw-Neuzenpolder near Terneuzen. It was a favorable decision for a region where, at that time, employability was under pressure because of a receding demand for workers in the agricultural sector. After the start of the first plant in 1964, the number of activities expanded fast. Because of the building of two naphtha crackers - and later a third - possibilities also arose for new derived production units. This contributed to the steady development of Dow Terneuzen into a world size company with strong roots in the regional economy and society.
