Dow Artifical Turf Solutions Introduced At FSB 2007 Cologne, Germany - October 31, 2007 Dow Artificial Turf Solutions introduces its newly formed specialist turf team and product and technology innovations for the artificial turf market at the FSB trade show being held on 31 October – 2 November 2007 in Cologne, Germany. This newly formed team will advise and support business partners in creating tailor-made solutions for high performance artificial turf systems. Dow’s artificial turf solutions include compatible combinations of raw materials for yarn, infill, backing and shock absorption. Sandeep Acharya, European Marketing Manager for yarn polymers at Dow, said that as the industry continues to evolve to next generation systems, raw material suppliers like Dow have to take an increasingly broad view of where to apply their research, processing and market development knowledge. “At Dow this resulted in a total systems approach based on the convergence of its four businesses involved with artificial turf - Base Plastics, Specialty Plastics & Elastomers, Polyurethane Systems and Latex. “Dow’s goal is to combine its business and communications know-how with its R&D and technical experience across all of the elements of the artificial turf business to become a strong and efficient business partner, offering its high-class material science know-how to develop solutions that address the future needs of artificial turf system designers and manufacturers, as well as professional sport governing bodies end end-users.” The ability to predict how an artificial turf system will respond to changes in specific components and the way in which they are combined is becoming increasingly important for the creation of long-lasting, environmentally friendly, high performance systems. “The challenge to the industry comes from recognising that the ability to optimise the performance criteria of each system component will come not from random trial and error attempts to improve one dimension, but from a truly integrated, system-wide approach,’ said Filip Tauson, Global Market Manager Specialty Plastics & Elastomers at Dow. “This is becoming particularly critical, as the recommended performance criteria from bodies such as FIFA are now becoming enshrined in the standards and certification systems that are being developing by the various sport governing bodies.” Building on its traditional capabilities in the carpet and flooring industry, Dow has developed a complementary and closely integrated portfolio of raw materials and technologies for yarn, infill, backing and shock absorption, and is today a leading raw material supplier of chemicals and plastics for artificial turf components. Product Innovations At FSBAt FSB, Dow Artificial Turf Solutions is highlighting a number of product innovations and business developments:
