Standard Carpets Scores with Dow’s Polyurethane Backing for Artificial Turf

Standard Carpets/UAE gets in the game with The Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”), producing artificial turf made with polyurethane backing systems. By partnering with Dow, Standard Carpets can now offer its artificial turf customers a distinctive, improved product.

A leading force in the development of innovative turf solutions, Dow develops polyurethane backing technology that’s designed to create a high-performance playing field. Backing systems made with Dow polyurethane technology help artificial turf stand up to tough conditions, while supporting athletes in play. DOW™ ENFORCER™ Sport polyurethane backing system delivers excellent tuft bind and dimensional stability, even when the playing field is continually wet. It effectively locks the fibers in place to the backing, allowing for improved durability and longer life. Plus it minimizes the possibility of distortion and shrinkage. The outcome is a uniform and predictable playing surface that will help retain its appearance for years to come.

In addition to the excellent physical properties of the end product, Dow polyurethane systems offer Standard Carpets benefits including: speed of production, rapid curing and low coating weight. Manufactured by Tuftco Finishing Systems of Dalton, Georgia, USA, the equipment used to mix Dow’s polyurethane is being used on Standard Carpets’ own coating line. The mixing machine is simple to operate, allowing the manufacturer to easily apply both polyurethane pre-coat and cushion. By acquiring this new equipment, Standard Carpets can improve the quality of their turf, without needing to build additional manufacturing facilities.

While it does require an upfront capital investment, the polyurethane process offers energy savings and the potential for increased operating capacity. In addition, polyurethane dries quickly by curing rather than by water evaporation, thereby increasing the manufacturer’s production capacity. While polyurethane requires more control and care in the mixing process, it is simple to apply, makes little mess, and is easy to keep clean.
