ANGUS Announces Job Restructuring for its Sterlington Site
Sterlington, LA - January 15, 2009 In December of 2008, The Dow Chemical Company stated it would eliminate approximately 5,000 full-time jobs worldwide. As a part of Dow’s transformational strategy, ANGUS Chemical Company today announces job restructuring moves for its Sterlington site. The moves impact a total of 17 full-time positions, which is approximately 9 percent of the workforce for the Sterlington site. Of these 17 positions, eight are open positions that will not be filled, two were deployed to other Dow sites, and seven were eliminated. Severance packages were offered to individuals in the seven positions eliminated. “We are confident these moves enable us to better accommodate recent market demand fluctuations for ANGUS products. As we have stated previously, the transformational strategy is very important for ANGUS as it best positions the business for sustainable activity throughout 2009, and prepares us for growth when the economy recovers,” said Mark Henning, president and CEO of ANGUS Chemical Company. No further reductions are planned at this time according to ANGUS Sterlington Plant Manager Karen Kay. The two largest ANGUS plants, which are responsible for basic nitroparaffin and its derivatives, will return to full operation by the end of the week. Additionally, the Crystal plant will return to full operation in February. All of these plants were temporarily idled in response to reduced demand during the fourth quarter of 2008. “ANGUS is very pleased to have our plants back up and running,” said Kay. “This demonstrates that the transformational strategy is working, which allows ANGUS to focus on growth and deliver sustainable activities for 2009.” About ANGUS About Dow With annual sales of $54 billion and 46,000 employees worldwide, Dow is a diversified chemical company that combines the power of science and technology with the "Human Element” to constantly improve what is essential to human progress.
