ANGUS Achieves 1,000,000 Man Hours Working Safely at its Sterlington Operations Site: Two Years Injury Free
Sterlington, LA - June 02, 2006 On June 2, 2006, employees and contractors at ANGUS Chemical Company’s Sterlington Operations site in Louisiana celebrates two years without an OSHA (Occupational Health & Safety Administration) recordable injury, representing more than 1,000,000 man hours of working safely at the plant. “As always, the safety of our employees and the protection of the environment is our number one priority. The achievement of two years with zero recordable injuries is a testament to the unwavering focus, commitment and dedication by all employees and contractors to this fundamental requirement at our plant,” said Billy Duncan, site leader at Sterlington. The two-year achievement is made even more outstanding when during the last year ANGUS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, completed a multi-million dollar investment project at the Sterlington production site which included training more than 400 contractors in ANGUS safety procedures as part of the project. The capacity expansion projects have enabled ANGUS to add additional volume for several products, including 2-NP and AMP-95™ dispersant. The Sterlington site in Ouachita Parish, LA, began operating in the 1930s, and houses several production units producing nitroparaffins and their derivatives. The site is ISO 9002 certified, a comprehensive standard covering all aspects of quality systems from production to product delivery and has on-going waste minimization and recycling programs. Sterlington Operations employs more than 200 full-time and contract workers, and contributes more than $50,000 annually to the United Way and other community outreach programs.
