ANGUS Chemical Company Completes Multi-Million Dollar Expansion at Sterlington Site

Company Celebrates 50th Anniversary of 2-NP Production

Buffalo Grove, IL - September 08, 2005

ANGUS Chemical Company ("ANGUS") today announced it has completed a multi-million dollar investment project at its Sterlington, Louisiana production site. The capacity expansion projects have enabled ANGUS to add additional volume for several products, including 2-NP and AMP-95™ dispersant.

"We reached record production volumes in July and August 2005 for our 2-NP and AMP-95 dispersant products," said Mark Henning, president and CEO of ANGUS. "The expansion illustrates our company's unique ability to innovate technology from an older and proven nitration patent. A direct result of increasing customer demand for ANGUS products, the capacity increase coincides with our 50th anniversary of 2-NP production and product excellence. ANGUS continues to push the technology way beyond what anyone could have envisioned half a century ago."

According to Billy Duncan, vice president of manufacturing for ANGUS, the Sterlington plant is operating at full production rates. "The purpose of our investment project was to enhance our ability to provide reliable, high-quality products to our customers," he said. "The endeavor was completed successfully with zero personal injuries, the number one goal for ANGUS where the safety of our employees and protection of the environment remain the top priorities of the business."

The product 2-NP is a critical component needed to produce AMP. AMP-95 dispersant is used in numerous applications in the paints and coatings, metalworking fluids, household and personal care, and water treatment markets.

The ANGUS Sterlington site was not damaged in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

"The site is running at normal operating rates and we are aggressively developing alternate logistics plans to minimize any potential negative impact to our customers," said Duncan. "While our first concern is for the safety and security of Dow and ANGUS employees and their families in the region, we would assure customers that all is being done to ensure continued reliable operations and safe on-time delivery of our products."

Aligned as a market-focused, solutions-driven specialty chemicals business, ANGUS is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company. ANGUS develops and delivers nitroalkane-based solutions to our customers for applications in latex paints, mineral slurries, metalworking fluids, water treatment, biological buffers, solvents and thinners, wood adhesives, pharmaceutical & agricultural intermediates, SBR latex shortstops, fuel additives and personal care and household products.
