Dow Announces Price Increase for Acrylic Monomers Midland, MI - June 11, 2008 Dow announces off schedule price increases for acrylic acid and esters, also known as acrylic monomers or acrylates, globally effective July 1, 2008, or as otherwise allowed by individual contract terms. The following table indicates the increase effective July 1, 2008 of off-schedule prices for butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, and glacial acrylic acid. The July 1, 2008 increase will be in addition to the increases previously announced and effective for June 1, 2008 as summarized in the chart below.
The chemical industry continues to experience unprecedented escalation in raw material feedstock and energy costs. As recently reported in the press by Dow CEO Andrew Liveris, Dow’s first quarter feedstock and energy bill leapt a staggering 42 percent in year over year and that trajectory has continued with the cost of oil and natural gas climbing ever higher. We can no longer absorb these dramatic cost increases and must implement these significant price increases in order to offset the rising costs to manufacture and transport our products and remain a strong and reliable supplier. About Dow Acrylates Dow is one of the world’s largest participants of acrylic acid and esters (acrylic monomers or acrylates), with a complete portfolio of acrylate materials that provide selection, quality and consistency for a wide range of applications. Acrylic monomers are used in dispersions and emulsions for adhesives, coatings, inks, woven and non-woven textiles, plastics and polymers and superabsorbent products.
